Skirinish Publishing is an independent publishing company based on the Isle of Skye, Scotland. It aims to produce and publish high quality books with a wide range of subjects. From biographies, coffeetable books with photography and design to historical novels and textbooks.
It derives its name from the location where it originated. Skirinish lies on a skerry headland on the Isle of Skye. Skirmish means 'to engage in a skirmish' and 'a brisk preliminary verbal conflict'. Making and creating books is an exchange between parties, where all engage in creating the best outcome. At Skirinish Publishing we share responsibility on the basis of equality and engagement.
We Publish People's Passions.
Its owner and founder, Marianne de Raad, has many years of experience in the publishing industry. She has a long record of bookproduction in the Netherlands. She worked in bookstores and museumshops. Her passion for books shifted to producing them when working for the Art Directors Club Netherlands where she yearly produced the annual. After that she coordinated the production of the 'Bonusfolder' by Albert Heijn at TEQUILA\TBWA. Through her experience with printed matter and design, she became head of the production and editorial department at Amsterdam University Press. Here she managed a team that produced about 200 titles a year. These ranged from standard monologue series to researched artwork by e.g. Frans Hals and Mondriaan.
